Recognizing the signs

It is rather important for one to recognize the infection in a tattoo at the right time. Here are some of the signs that would alert you to the presence of an infection.

The first sign that points to infection is the redness. A bit of redness around the tattoo on the first day is normal. However, the redness should subside the following day and the tattoo may start to scab. If redness persists, you should view it as a danger sign. The redness would also feel warm to the touch.

If the area of the tattoo becomes tender, it points to further infection.

What needs to be done?

When you recognize the signs of an infected tattoo, it is advisable that you consult a doctor right away to make sure the problem does not progress. However, if prompt consultation is not possible, there are certain things that you can do to take care of it in the best manner possible.

Get your hands on a paper towel and dip it in peroxide. After squeezing it carefully lay it flat on your tattoo for several minutes. Repeat the exercise several times in a day.

You might also have to opt for some broad spectrum antibiotics to ward off the bacteria. Topical ointment such as Bacitracin or Neosporin can be applied to the tattoo to hasten the process of healing.

If you want your tattoo to be healed at a faster rate, you will have to make it certain that it is kept dry at all times. Water would thwart the process of healing and therefore, you would have to take measures that would keep the area dry. You also need to make it certain that the tattoo area is not exposed to sunlight.
